We don’t have to tell you that hygiene is important in abattoirs.

We don’t have to tell you that hygiene is important in abattoirs. It is not only important for the food safety of your meat, but also increases its quality and shelf life. To further improve hygiene in slaughterhouses, DGS has developed the DGS Hygienic Slaughter Line in collaboration with other Dutch partners. The HSL-Chain is the most hygienically available slaughter line, which goes further than the applicable hygiene requirements. Would you like to know why this is the ideal solution for your abattoir? Read the full story below.

New standard

The DGS-HSL-Chain is a 100% Dutch product, developed by DGS in close collaboration with a leading abattoir and chain supplier. The Hygienic chain is becoming the new standard within abattoirs and goes beyond the current hygiene requirements. As a result, you are assured of the highest hygiene and quality standards not only now, but also in the future. The HSL-Chain consists entirely of stainless steel and GMP certified plastic wheels. It is easy to clean, durable and contains no grease on the outside. The DGS-HSL -CHAIN is compatible with current common galvanized chains such as the “insert” chain and the “gimbal” chain. The compatibility makes it possible to replace the existing chain in phases.

Increasing hygiene

When we look at hygiene within slaughterhouses, we can quickly conclude that the existing galvanized chain is the weak link. Henk ter Avest, sales manager: ‘During production, the chain runs for many hours. This causes wear and tear, which is unavoidable. Due to the wear, space is released between the chain, where a lot of bacteria and dirt accumulate. This causes hygiene problems and can cost a lot of time and money because products are (partially) lost.’

Hygienic Slaughter Line

The new HSL-Chain from DGS offers the solution to this problem. The innovative design prevents dirt from accumulating between the pins. The grease needed to lubricate the pins remains in place and does not pose a risk to the product. Furthermore, the HSL-Chain has no grease on the outside, so that bacteria can no longer easily attach to the chain.

In addition, in contrast to existing solutions, the chain can be cleaned in-line. The transport of bacteria that are scattered over the entire route is thus reduced to a minimum.

DGS hygienic slaughter line

The HSL-Chain is the new standard within the DGS Hygienic Slaughter Line concept for cattle and calf slaughter lines. The line concept and line components are continuously developed by the best engineers in collaboration with food technologists and various experience experts. William van Ampting, Managing Director: ‘Through close collaborations and the continuous development of the lines, we can already realize the specifications of the future’.

The DGS-HSL-Chain is gimbal and therefore extremely suitable for bridging differences in height, such as placing a product at the most ergonomic height. The chain fits seamlessly with the existing galvanized gimbal chain. For example, existing conveyors can be converted to the DGS-HSL-Chain in phases. A completely stainless steel solution is created in combination with the stainless steel hangings from DGS.

In addition to the hygienic advantages, the HSL-Chain from DGS is also very durable. It needs limited maintenance and when done properly it can have a long life. In addition, limited maintenance also keeps operating costs low. You can also contact DGS for maintenance.
