Looking Back at 2024: Innovations, Successes, and Future Plans
2024 was marked by growth and milestones at DGS. We can look back with pride at the achievements accomplished in collaboration with customers, partners, and colleagues. The year was defined by innovation, teamwork, and strengthening our position within the European food industry.
Innovations Shaping the Future
One of the most groundbreaking innovations was the introduction of the automatic drive system for slaughterhouses. This solution ensures that cattle and calves are led to the stunning box in a humane way, without the use of prickers. In 2024, two of these systems were successfully installed in Dutch slaughterhouses. The result: animals now walk calmly to the box, which not only improves animal welfare but also enhances working conditions for employees.
Another major innovation was the filet positioning system, which uses AI to recognize chicken fillets and position them correctly. This technology enhances the efficiency and precision of the production process, ensuring fillets are placed accurately and consistently, improving processing speed and reducing waste.
Additionally, several projects were sold and installed, including Supply Point Cuijck, Bakkerij de Paauw, and an impressive project for Locks. This plate-freezing installation, which has been successfully running for several months, was designed with a high degree of automation and minimal manual labor. The new line produces 100 to 120 tons per week, is managed by only five employees, and the quality of the final product has significantly improved.
Collaborations have also contributed to this year’s success. In Denmark, we partnered with Mafo Industrial Washing on a project for DAKA, focused on emptying and cleaning waste containers. Internal logistics, including robotics, were provided, making the project a great success. In Germany, the construction of new cold storage rooms for the Bösseler slaughterhouse was completed, showcasing our ability to tackle complex challenges.
Strengthening the foundation
Another significant milestone was the introduction of an internal Viwateq installation, making DGS the only company in the Netherlands to offer this unique, sustainable method for treating stainless steel (RVS). This technology improves the condition of stainless steel surfaces, making them more resistant to corrosion and easier to clean. This is a crucial advancement in improving hygiene and sustainability within the food industry.
On an organizational level, Richard Vonk was welcomed as the new CEO in May 2024. With a strong focus on organizational development, he is preparing DGS for the next phase. While significant growth has been achieved over the past 10 years, continuous improvement remains a priority to maintain our position as a market leader. This year was made even more special by the celebration of our 10th anniversary in September. Over 600 people—including colleagues, customers, suppliers, and other partners—gathered to celebrate this memorable occasion. It was a day filled with gratitude and pride.
Looking ahead to 2025
Internationally, significant strides were made. The collaboration with Sealpac resulted in the first joint project, and many promising opportunities lie ahead for 2025. With our solutions, DGS continues to demonstrate that it is a strong and reliable player in the food industry across Europe.
2024 was a year of innovation, development, and celebrating successes. Ambitious plans are already in place for 2025. Under the motto “Accelerate and Steer,” we are working hard to better serve our customers and take further steps in the food industry. Thanks go out to everyone who made this year possible. Together, we are building an even stronger future for DGS!
