Lairage plays a crucial role at the start of the slaughtering process. Here, animals are received and temporarily housed, which must be done in a humane manner. Our lairage facilities, alleyways, and automatic driving systems contribute to this goal.
DGS lairage design
DGS provides lairage facilities for cattle, calves, and pigs. We utilize steel, stainless steel, and plastic in our lairage construction. When designing, we take into account factors such as easy cleaning and minimisation of environmental factors such as noise, light and odour that can cause stress to animals. For example, plastic walls reduce noise pollution, which not only promotes animal welfare but also improves meat quality.
To ensure animals have constant access to feed and water, we equip our lairage facilities with stainless steel feeding troughs and water bowls. Additionally, we offer optional supplementary systems like mobile milking machines or emergency rails and hoisting systems in case animals cannot move independently through the alleyways. Around the facilities and alleyways, we provide safe walking routes with ample space for operators.

DGS’s automatic Pusher offers an innovative and animal-friendly way to guide animals through the alley. Designed for animals standing still in the aisle, it encourages animals to move calmly and steadily toward the stun box, eliminating the need for electric prods.
This solution is especially suitable for animals less familiar with alleys, such as bulls and calves. It also works well in situations where animals are less likely to move to the stun box on their own.
