Succescase

Storteboom Food Group is a major supplier of chicken products, with several sites in the Netherlands and two in Poland. DGS and Storteboom have invested in a partnership aimed at improving crate logistics. DGS has also installed a case-packer robot to load trays of chicken fillets into boxes. By applying robotic technology in combination with a flexible supply of trays, we are able to automate the packing process from loading right through to palletising. By developing a comprehensive plan with a clear shared vision, the project was implemented in phases, resulting in Storteboom now having a future-proof production process.

Reducing the workload

At a time when it is becoming increasingly difficult to find staff, we are looking into implementing automated solutions wherever possible. Storteboom places great value on automation and has therefore invested in a robotic case packer. Using a custom-made gripper and intelligent robotic movements, we place trays of raw chicken fillets into boxes. This simple, repetitive task no longer needs to be carried out by an operator and has a high capacity, which further increases efficiency.

Smart crate logistics

At the first part of the production process, filled crates are placed on our conveyor belts. These have to be transported to either the expedition, or the cutting area. With our smart software and the use of cameras, crates are automatically sent to the right destination. Before the finished products are loaded onto a pallet they go through metal detection, to ensure the highest level of food safety.

Continuous transport

In a production process, it’s preferable to prevent stopping production lines. That’s why we created a special solution to connect the fillet grading lines to the tray sealers. Before production, a grading line can be connected to a tray sealer. Our solution starts with three belt conveyors, that pivot vertically via a hinge system. By doing this, we can connect three supply conveyors to four output conveyors, that lead to the tray sealers. The result? it’s now possible to switch tray sizes without stopping thus creating a continuous transport.
